For my visual illustration of Love You Forever (1986) by Robert Munsch, I wanted to capture the nostalgic, heartfelt bond between a mother and son through an 80s-inspired aesthetic. I used a sepia filter to give the visuals a warm, aged look, reminiscent of faded family photographs kept in an old photo album. I added noise and scratch overlays to mimic the texture of vintage film, evoking a sense of timelessness and creating an emotional connection with the viewer.

 

In terms of color, I incorporated brown warm tones and teal hues. These colors not only reflect the era but also convey warmth, love, and memory. The teal is used prominently, particularly as a background with a wallpaper pattern, a teal base with yellow lines and pink florals, that’s reminiscent of typical 80s decor. This pattern complements the imagery, adding a cozy, homely feel that’s both welcoming and deeply personal. To further emphasize the time period, I included vintage baby items such as a wooden dresser, an old-fashioned crib, and ornate photo frames. These objects serve as visual anchors to the story's setting and bring authenticity to the scenes. Each piece is thoughtfully placed, helping tell the story of a mother’s love that withstands the test of time. As the son grows up, these same objects subtly shift in focus, allowing him to reflect on his upbringing and, later, to pass down that same unconditional love to his own daughter. The result is a nostalgic, heartfelt homage to the book’s timeless themes of love and family.
